A good practice would be to drain your water faucets and cuspidors for 30 seconds at the beginning of the day prior to doing so with your dental units ; . In this manner, the water that has stagnated all night in the pipes in the office is replaced much quicker and the burden of eliminating bacteria that have accumulated throughout the network is now lifted from this 1mm line. As a result, quality water will reach the dental waterlines much quicker. In fact, the dental unit problem is a smaller scale of the large main pipes that are also colonized by biofilms. A great part of the problem rests on the weak flow of 1mm tubing.
When the anxious patient snows disinterest in continuing treatment in order to avoid further probing into painful memories, adjunctive therapy with Librium chlordiazepoxide HCl ; can help you overcome this defensive tactic. The value of this drug in relieving anxiety, thereby diminishing defense mechanisms and protecting against psychological stress, is documented in an extensive body of clinical literature. Increase in personal insight often follows the initiation of therapy, and more fruitful interviews result. Unlike meprobamate or the phenothiazines, Librium chlordiazepoxide HCl ; generally does not have dulling or flattening effects. In addition, it can be administered in the presence of depression.

COC Test for cocaine metabolite or benzoylecgonine. Cocaine metabolite will be present in the urine about 30 minutes after cocaine use and up to several days after infrequent, light use and up to a week or two after chronic, heavy use. Cocaine is a stimulant that is snorted as a powder, smoked as "crack" or injected. OPI Test for the natural opiates morphine and codeine and will also detect the synthetic narcotics hydrocodone Vicodin, Hycodan, Panacet, Anexsia ; and hydromorphone Diluadid ; . Morphine is an injectable drug and a metabolite of heroin. Codeine is in some prescription cough syrups, Tylenol 3 and some other medications. These narcotic drugs are CNS and respiratory depressants. Consumption of large amounts of poppy seeds can also result in a positive. High concentrations of oxycodone can cause a positive. MET Test for methamphetamine "crank" ; , a stimulant that is snorted as a powder and injected. Methamphetamine is primarily illicit manufacture. Use of methamphetamine is detectable within 30 minutes and up to several days after light and or infrequent use. Chronic, heavy use will be detectable for a week or more. MDMA Ecstasy ; can cause a positive as well. Some diet and cold medicines including pseudoephedrine ; in larger doses can cause false positives. Selegiline Atapryl, Dipryl, Eldepryl ; and benzphetamine Didrex ; metabolize to methamphetamine and can cause a positive. The Vicks inhaler, if used extensively, can cause a positive. Ranitidine Zantac ; in high concentrations may cause a positive. THC Test for marijuana. Use of marijuana is detected within 15 minutes after smoking and for one to three days after light use. Chronic, heavy use can be detected for several weeks or more after last use. Marinol, synthetic THC, will cause a positive. Sustiva and metabolites do NOT cause false positives. AMP Test for amphetamine Adderal, Dexedrine, Benzedrine and illicit manufacture ; . Like methamphetamine, amphetamine is a metabolite of selegiline and benzphetamine as well as a metabolite of methamphetamine. Thus, methamphetamine use will usually cause both a methamphetamine and amphetamine positive. Some diet and cold medicines in larger doses can cause false positives. Detectable one to three days after last use. PCP Test for phencyclidine "Angel dust" ; . PCP is a hallucinogen and stimulant. It is detectable for one to three days after use. It is usually smoked after application to cigar or cigarette as a liquid. It will be detectable about 15 minutes after use. Caution: PCP use is minimal in the U.S. and there are false positives. Less than half of positives confirm as positive. Venlafaxine Effexor ; may cause a false positive. BZO Test for the benzodiazepine tranquilizer antianxiety drugs including diazepam Valium ; , chlordiazepoxide Librium ; , oxazepam Serax ; , alprazolam Xanax ; and others. The benzodiazepines are widely prescribed and primarily taken as pills orally. They can be detected for up to a week in urine. BAR Test for barbiturates such as pentobarbital, butalbital, amobarbital, secobarbital and phenobarbital. These are CNS depressants that cause impaired motor coordination and mental disorder. Phenobarbital is used as an anticonvulsant. Other barbiturates are used as sedatives and analgesic-sedatives. They can be detected for up to a week after last use except the longer-acting phenobarbital up to several weeks. Primidone metabolizes to Phenobarbital. MTD Test for methadone Dolophine ; , a synthetic narcotic that is used in the treatment of narcotic addiction and causes the same symptoms as narcotic use and abuse. After chronic use it may be detectable for several weeks. After oral use, detectable after about 30 minutes. If injected, detectable after 15 minutes. TCA Test for the tricyclic antidepressant drugs amitriptyline, desipramine, doxepin, imipramine, nortriptyline and others. These drugs are taken orally for the treatment of depressive disorders. The newer antidepressants such as fluoxetine Prozac ; and paroxetine Paxil ; will not be detected by the TCA test. Cyclobenzaprine Flexeril ; can cause a positive as it is structurally similar to TCAs. OXY Test for oxycodone Percodan, Percocet, Oxycontin ; , another narcotic analgesic with strong abuse and addiction potential. This test can also detect other narcotics, oxymorphone Numorphan ; , hydrocodone Vicodin ; and codeine. Oxycontin is widely prescribed for severe pain management as a time-release preparation. In a heroin overdose, the MOR test and OXY test may both be positive. Oxycodone is detectable for several days after last use. MDMA Test for methylenedioxymethamphetamine MDMA, Ecstasy ; , a stimulant, euphoric and hallucinogen. MDMA is detectable about 30 minutes after oral use and for up to about three days. Assessment of Need In North Carolina, the Healthful Living curriculum guidelines mandate health instruction from Kindergarten through ninth grade. A breakdown of pregnancy rates by age, however, shows an increase in pregnancies in 16- and 17-year-olds, with a marked increase among 18- and 19-yearolds. These numbers reflect a national trend. * While many pregnancy prevention programs are geared for the younger teens, the data suggest the importance of both "starting early and staying late." Reports from teachers and concerned parents suggest that some of the most academically capable students are dropping out of college, not because they are not prepared academically but because poor choices cause them to become involved in risk behaviors that derail their college careers. Program Strategy To address this need, a series of classes is conducted during the senior year of high school, using a seminar format, rather than lectures. The seminar focuses on a different topic each day with interactive activities, small group work, self-assessments, role-playing to practice communication skills, and expert guest speakers. A few short video segments are used. The seminar series includes eight 90-minute sessions. It is conducted during English classes because English is the only course required for all seniors. The health educator works closely with the senior English teachers to schedule the series. The teachers are present during all sessions and often become involved in discussions and make valuable contributions of information and or real-life stories from past students. Sessions in order of presentation are as follows: Friendship, Communication, Dating, Substance Abuse, Unhealthy Relationships Depression, Committed Relationships Marriage, Intimate Sexual Behavior, and STDs Contraception.
PO13.04 Referral of Travelers from Australia by General Practitioners for Travel Health Advice Leggat P.A. 1 ; , Seelan S.T. 2 ; 1 ; James Cook University, Townsville 2 ; Parkview Medical Centre, Sydney Objectives: In Australia, little is known about the referral patterns of travelers for travel health advice by GP's in the Australian context. This study was designed to investigate how frequently GPs' practice staff became involved in providing basic travel health advice and travel vaccination and to identify referral sources and how frequently GP's referred travelers to these sources for travel health advice. Methods: In 2000, 500 GPs were randomly selected from the register of the Australian Medical Association's Medical Directory of Australia database and sent self-administered questionnaires. Two reminders were sent. Results: Two hundred and thirteen questionnaires 43% ; were returned. Approximately two thirds of the sample was male 133 207, 64.3% ; and one third female 74 207, 35.7% ; . The mean age of the GP's was 46.7 SD12.1 ; years. The majority of GPs did not use their practice staff for giving travel health advice 60.7%, 122 201 ; or giving travel vaccinations 55.7%, 112 201 ; . More than three quarters of GPs would never refer their patients for travel health advice to GP's with a special interest in travel medicine 76.4%, 152 199 ; , specialists 76.8%, 152 198 ; , or other agencies 77.8%, 63 81 ; . Almost half of GPs stated that they would refer to travel clinics at least sometimes 46.6%, 95 204 ; . Conclusions: GP's refer travelers to a variety of sources for travel health advice, at least sometimes, especially to travel clinics, but also to other agencies, possibly for specialized services, such as yellow fever vaccination. Further studies may be needed on the reasons and the appropriateness of the referral to these agencies. Practices may need to consider further training of their auxiliary health staff in travel medicine, so that they can become more involved in the provision of travel health advice and immunization, where possible.
Cyclophosphamide has been shown to be effective in treating lung disease associated with scleroderma. A higher portion of patients taking the drug also had significant reductions in breathlessness. The study included 162 patients whose scleroderma had caused significant impairment. The researchers did report some adverse effects, including five cases of pneumonia. Two patients died, but two also died in the placebo group, and the deaths weren't due to drug toxicity.
The map above shows the crack cocaine, marijuana, and cocaine offenses by county when both the drug type and the county were reported. There were a greater number of crack charges in Jefferson County 213 ; than in Kanawha County 120 ; . A large number of crack charges were also from Berkeley County 118.
Before the advent of therapy for hemophilia A, some affected patients had only moderate bleeding problems, lived to adulthood, and led relatively normal lives in the absence of trauma or surgery.2 Others had severe, spontaneous bleeding beginning in early childhood and rarely survived to adulthood; still others had disease of intermediate clinical severity. The main cause of this variation is the different mutations of the hemophilia A gene that cause hemophilia. When a mutation results in the complete loss of factor VIII protein -- usually because a large gene deletion or genetic inversion results in the failure of gene transcription -- severe hemophilia occurs.2 The absence of endogenous factor VIII also increases the likelihood of an immune response when factor VIIIreplacement therapy is used.3 This immune response is a severe complication because it can prevent effective treatment. In contrast, other mutations, such as those in which there is a small change in the DNA sequence of the gene, lead to amino acid substitutions in the factor VIII protein. Depending on the nature of the substitution and its effect on the function of factor VIII, these mutations cause mild-to-moderate disease. This example demonstrates that there is often a logical relation between a person's DNA sequence genotype ; and health outcome phenotype ; . The functional effect of the genotype is the key factor, providing a molecular explanation for the severity of a given disease.

Was a period when energy companies were in what the Wall Street Journal described as " . the worst shape since the Great Depression." Allegations of questionable business practices, lawsuits and disputes, confusion about accounting practices and softening wholesale electricity markets all contributed to a general retreat by investors from stocks in the energy segment as they tried to determine how to differentiate between stocks with higher or lower risk. The stocks of companies in this sector became especially volatile. This volatility and confusion affected virtually all energy stocks, ours included, but they help validate the primary reason Reliant Energy split into two companies: so investors would have a choice between a stock in the more volatile wholesale energy sector and a primarily regulated utility stock such as CenterPoint Energy. CenterPoint Energy's businesses are operating well, have a solid and growing customer base in good service territories and turned in a strong earnings performance in 2002. For 2002, we reported income from continuing operations of 6 million, or .29 per diluted share. More detail can be found in our Financial Information section beginning on page 25. However, the company begins life with a significant amount of debt. Nonetheless, we have a clear path to reduce this debt. Our plan is to recover the investment on our generating assets together with related regulatory assets. We'll do this by selling our interest in Texas Genco and recovering any book value in excess of the market value through stranded investment securitization. Following this sale and true-up of stranded investment, our debt will be reduced to a level more typical of a regulated utility.
